Hey everyone, I'm so Happy to share this recipe with you all, this recipe was brought to our family by my husband, and we are very happy to share it with you all. If you try this recipe and enjoyed, it as much as we do, please feel free to leave a comment and share it with others.
To make this amazing bread you will need:
- 5 1/2 cups of bread Flour (688 grams) *Can use all-purpose but quality may be a bit different*
- 1/4 cup Honey (85 grams) or Sugar (50 grams) *We use sugar as it is cheaper but have made it both ways and its delicious whichever way*
- 1 Tbs of active dry yeast
- 2 tsp of salt * we use kosher salt, so we do 1 1/2 tsp* If using finer salts stick to the 2 tsp for coarser salt do 1 to 1 1/2 tsp
- 2 cups of water between 105-115 f. degrees (474 grams)
- 2 Tbs oil (vegetable, canola, avocado or even olive oil works fine) 30 ml
To Make the Dough:
- We will start our recipe by ensuring we have everything in our list, we pre-portion everything before we start but it is not necessary as long as you know your kitchen lol
- We will add our water, yeast and a pinch of our sugar into a bowl or the bowl of our stand mixer and give it a whisk and let rest for 10 minutes approximately this will help us ensure our yeast is active
- once yeast is active add the rest of the sugar or honey 3 cups of flour (if stand mixer add all but the last 1/2 cup of flour) then mix it all until combine
- you will continue to add flour until you reach 5 cups until fully mix at this point you want to knead your dough for about 8 minutes on a lightly floured surface, if it's still sticky add the last 1/2 cup of flour. If using stand mixer, you will use your bread hook and knead it for 4-5 minutes dough should be firm and feel sticky but not actually stick to anything *best tip, look for when dough doesn't stick to bowl, at that point is ready do not over knead it, if you do use that 1/2 cup to correct it. SHAPE THE DOUGH INTO A BALL IMPORTANT.
- At this point you can choose to let it rise overnight, make sure your bowl has been oiled and add your dough ball to the bowl and rub it onto the walls to coat the dough onto the oil this will prevent it from drying and or sticking to the sides. You can also let it rest for 1 hour and a half in a warm place like your oven make sure you cover the bowl with a kitchen towel.
- after it has rested you will need 2 9"x5" pans to be oil and ready, punch your dough and put it on a lightly flour surface knead it for about 5 minutes, cut the dough in half and roll them into logs they should be as long as your bread pan.
- you will cover the bread pan and let rest in a warm place for another hour or until they rise 1" above the pan
- pre heat the oven to 350f, bake the bread for 30-33 minutes or until the top is golden. you will know your bread is ready when you tap it and it sounds hollow.
- *Tip, we add a pan with water at the bottom this helps the crust gets crustier you can add butter to your dough before baking for a softer bread or grab an egg and beat it and coat your bread top for a shinier crustier top.
- when bread is done allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes before putting in cool rack you can slice it at this point or wait for it to cool and be firmer.
Afterwards enjoy your homemade bread with some butter, jelly or even a slice of tomato.
